Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be in shape to start?
Shaolin-Do is beneficial for students of any skill or fitness level. Our training will help you develop the strength, flexibility, balance, and endurance to be successful in martial arts. If you are concerned about heavy exercise, our Tai Chi program is focused more on internal development while still building physical fitness. We do recommend that if you have a medical condition that may be affected by exercise, please consult your doctor prior to before joining a class as a precaution.
What should I wear?
Wear something that will be comfortable to work out in for your first few classes such as typical exercise clothing or sweats. We do require you to remove shoes and socks while exercising as a traditional sign of respect. Once you are comfortable with the program and prior to your first rank advancement test, Traditional Kung Fu students will need to purchase a gi (workout uniform) which is available from the school.
Do I need to bring anything?
All that is required to begin is yourself and a willingness to learn! You may also want a water bottle and towel similar to what you would take to the gym. Once you begin learning weapons, many students choose to buy their own, but we have enough equipment to get you started at Louisville Shaolin-Do.
Do you have separate kids’ classes?
We teach kids the same material as adults and group them in the same classes. Because our curriculum can get complex as it gets more advanced, we recommend an adult join with any child under 9. However, this depends on each child’s ability to focus and remember what they learn. We encourage you to contact us for more details.
